Description

DRAG LINK ASSEMBLY

Part Number: F1002498C

Direct replacement (cross ref) for 10-02498.

Product Overview

This drag link assembly connects the steering gear to the steering knuckle, basically carrying your steering input down to the wheels. It’s one of those parts you don’t think about until the truck starts feeling loose or wandering. This unit replaces OEM part 10-02498 and is built for applications where steering precision matters day in, day out.

What the Part Does

The drag link transfers motion from the steering box to the front wheels. When you turn the wheel, this is one of the main components making that movement happen at the axle.

It has joints on each end that allow movement while keeping everything tight. When those joints are in good shape, the steering feels solid and predictable. When they’re not, you’ll feel it right away.

Common Problems This Part Solves

A worn drag link shows up pretty clearly once it starts going:

  • Loose or wandering steering
  • Play in the steering wheel
  • Clunking when turning
  • Uneven tire wear from poor alignment

In bad cases, you may even see visible movement in the joints when someone turns the wheel.

Why Replacement Matters

Steering isn’t something you want to gamble with. A worn drag link affects both driving comfort and control. It can throw off alignment, wear out tires faster and make the truck harder to keep straight, especially at highway speeds. Replacing it tightens everything back up and restores proper steering response.

Compatibility and Fitment

This assembly replaces OEM part 10-02498. Always verify fitment based on your truck’s steering setup, since lengths and end types can vary.

Installation and Service Notes

To install it, you need to remove the old link and install the new one in its place. Even a small change in steering geometry can affect tire wear and handling. While you’re in there, check tie rods and other steering components. These parts tend to wear together.

Use Case

Common in front-end repairs, steering issues, or trucks that feel loose on the road. Fleets often replace these during scheduled front-end service, together with torque rod assembly.

FAQs

Q1: How do I know the drag link is bad?
A: If the steering feels loose or you notice play in the wheel before the truck responds, that’s a big sign. Clunking when turning is another common one.
Q2: Can I drive with a worn drag link?
A: You can, but it’s not safe long term. Steering control gets worse over time, and it can lead to uneven tire wear or bigger issues.
Q3: Do I need an alignment after replacement?
A: Yes, it’s highly recommended. Any steering component change can affect alignment.
Q4: Should I replace other steering parts at the same time?
A: If they show wear, yes. Tie rods and other linkage parts often wear at a similar rate.
